Sabotage probably behind widespread power outages

Power outages to many suburbs suddenly went off at 12:00, before 13:00's scheduled load shedding cycle.

Electricity supply to areas that are not linked on the power network, like the CBD, Kanonkop, Dennesig, Gholfsig and Clubville, are still down.

All areas have been reported and contractors are tending to the problems.

Sabotage by striking municipal employees may be behind the sudden power outages.

Contractors will however have to wait until after load shedding at 15:30, to restore supply.

Some areas in Middelburg are also still without water after various pipe bursts since Friday. High lying areas remain worst affected alongside the CBD, Mineralia and Suid.

The Vliegveld reservoir remains low, and residents in high lying areas have been urged to use water spearingly.

A second pipe burst in Silver Street, has also been reported.

Meanwhile, residents also reported that work on a new reservoir behind Gholfsig, had been halted due to the contractor not being paid.

Contractors are under severe strain in the midst of the ongoing municipal strike.

Councillors have said that while they are not as familiar with the town’s water and electricity networks, they work around the clock to locate problems and fix them.
