Road rage attack leaves man seriously injured

A man was left severely shaken after he was attacked by two men on Saturday, during a road rage incident.

The attack happened in Umfolozi Street in Aerorand at about 20:45, not far from the victim’s home.

Koketso Mampane (28) told www.mobserver.co.za that he was driving his Mazda bakkie at a snail’s pace when he noticed that the Volkswagen SUV behind him was flashing its lights.

The Volkswagen overtook him and abruptly parked in front of him.

Mr Mampane said he locked his doors when he saw the two men from the Volkswagen walking towards his car.

The two men started hitting the driver’s window with their palms. When they saw that their palms were not breaking the window, the men hit the window with their fists until it shattered.

Suspects broke the driver’s window to gain access to Mr Mampane.

Mr Mampane said the men then punched and slapped him in the face while asking him in why he was driving so slow and what he was doing in Aerorand.

He said he was assaulted for about 10 minutes.

He reported the incident to the Middelburg Police and was transported to Middelburg Med 24, where he was treated for his wounds.

Mr Mampane, fortunately, managed to write the number plate of the suspects’ car, and the police are investigating the matter.

No arrests have been made yet.
