Workers yet to receive their dismissal letters

Even after being threatened with immediate dismissal, striking workers are still sticking to their guns.

The workers’ representative, Kgosi Makwati, told www.mobserver.co.za that workers are still on strike and that they are yet to receive dismissal letters.

Last week the municipal manager sent a letter to the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) and the Independent Municipal & Allied Trade Union (IMATU), instructing striking workers to return to their duties within 48 hours, or face dismissal.

Mr Makwati said none of the striking workers have reported for duty. He also adds that the workers have not received any political support from the ANC, adding that the ANC blames the striking workers for their loss at last week’s polls.

Mr Makwati said he hopes the DA doesn’t form a coalition with the ANC, so that the DA can hopefully aid workers.
