Inaugural sitting – as it happens

A strong police presence has been observed at the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality's civic centre this morning, where the inaugural sitting is scheduled to take place today.

While residents are waiting with bated breath for the local municipality’s executive mayor to be announced, council is slowly filling up with reports that the ANC has not yet arrived.

Following threats of disruption, the inaugural sitting’s location was moved from the Sydney Choma Banquet Hall to the civic centre, which has been entirely closed off to the public for the duration of the sitting.

Readers can stay tuned into www.mobserver.co.za for live updates on the inaugural sitting.
