Traffic calming measures implemented by Trac after N4 hail and flood damage

Trac has warned motorists traveling on the N4 that traffic accommodations have been implemented between The Dalmanutha Intersection and the Machado Interchange.

The new road surface has been washed away by a severe thunder and hailstorm on December 7. The weather caused the Winnaarspoort River to flood, leading to the temporary closure of the N4 on December 7.

Trac says “it was an exceptional event, with debris deposited on the roadway, which caused damage to the new road surface”.

According to Trac, an 80m stretch of the N4 is affected, where the asphalt layer has washed away.

Traffic measures have been implemented to ensure motorists approach the damaged part of the road at decreased speeds. Delays in traffic will inevitably be caused, Trac warns.

The section of the road was recently upgraded as part of the Belfast-Machado rehabilitation and upgrade project. The damage is currently being assessed.

Road users are urged to be patient and obey all traffic calming measures.

Motorists can follow Trac’s social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter for road updates.
