Municipality to respond to protestor’s demands by next week

Municipal spokesperson, Ms Prudence Magutle, confirmed to www.mobserver.co.za that the mayor's office is working on a response to protestor's demands that Municipal Manager, Advocate Bheki Khenisa either resign immediately, or alternatively be suspended by council.

Protestors, labelling themselves Concerned Residents and Businesses, marched to the municipality yesterday, demanding lifestyle audits for all municipal managers and the immediate suspension of Advocate Khenisa.

Protestors will regroup on Tuesday to organize a “total municipal shutdown” if the municipality does not respond favorably to their demands by Monday. Ms Magutle told www.mobserver.co.za that the municipality is working on a response, but added that no deadline was given for a municipal response when the memorandum changed hands.

According to a protest organizer, a municipal sit-in is also on the cards, if the municipality fails to implement demands. Demands include:

Forensic investigations on fleet tenders, and the tender for the construction of a Mhluzi substation.

Protestors are also demanding a moratorium om the filling of vacant posts, the vetting of all municipal posts filled by Advocate Khenisa, a forensic land and property audit, an audit of smart city tenders, an audit on mine royalty usage, open electricity sales and the immediate suspension of all contractors performing municipal functions.
