Escalating number of rapes of minors

Christmas wishes from the Mhluzi SAPS.

Colonel Moses Maepa, Mhluzi SAPS Station Commander:
Warm Christmas greetings to all the SAPS members, CPF, stakeholders and the community at large.

As the year comes to an end, I would like to raise awareness on the safety of the community and bringing perpetrators to book.

The police urge residents not to use dangerous footpaths or abandoned buildings. Do not walk alone at night and avoid walking behind the stadium and open field.

There is an escalating number of rapes of minors.

I also want to warn those who will be drinking in public during the festive season. Loud and rude behaviour will not be tolerated.

The police will actively enforce the Dangerous Weapons Act if residents are caught with unlicensed weapons.

Those going on holiday are advised to lock their homes and inform family or neighbours so that they can keep an eye on your property.

Motorists should not leave their valuables in their vehicles. Lock your vehicles and park in a safe place.

Gender-based violence will also not be tolerated.

I want to send a strong warning to residents who lie to the police. Those who report false cases will be charged with perjury.

Those walking in public are also advised to keep their cellphones safe at all times.

• Residents with information that can assist the police are urged to call 013 244 7101, 013 244 7119 or 082 923 1387.
Residents can also call Crime Stoppers on 08600 10111 to report criminal activity anonymously.
