What you need to know about the fireworks by-laws

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality is appealing with residents to adhere to its by-laws on fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

Residents are urged to be mindful of animals.

Fireworks are only permitted on New Year’s Eve until the wee hours of New Year’s Day between 23:00 – 01:00.

Anyone who wishes to use fireworks should get permission from the Chief Fire Officer.

Residents who contravene the by-law will receive a fine or face the court.

Residents shouldn’t use fireworks:

Within 500 metres of any explosives factory, explosives storage place, petrol depot or petrol station;

  1. Inside any building;
  2. On any agricultural holding;
  3. at any public place; or
  4. at any school, old age home or hospital.

No person may light or ignite fireworks in any place where animals are present.
