Suspects involved in attack on electricians arrested

The Middelburg Police arrested four suspects, three females and one male aged between 35 and 39 on allegations of malicious damage to property and another charge of tampering with infrastructure.

It is alleged that some workers at the local municipality were on duty Monday night, fixing electricity when they were approached by a group of people in possession of rocks and bottles.

The suspects tried to attack one of the colleagues but they managed to flee the scene, leaving behind their motor vehicles.

Later the said employees went back were they left their cars and noticed that one of the vehicles’ windscreen was smashed and the wheels thereof were damaged.

Keys of the vehicle were reportedly not found where they were left, and suspected to have been stolen by the suspects.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 24 February.
