Three arrested for allegedly assaulting traffic cop

Hell broke loose in Hlalamnandi on Sunday when residents had a dispute with Steve Tshwete Traffic Officials.

A video taken by a passer-by shows residents confronting a traffic official for allegedly assaulting a suspect.

According to a reliable source, the incident happened at about 17:00.

A traffic officer was patrolling the area when he came across a man that seemed drunk, walking in the middle of the road. The officer hooted for the man to get out of the road, the man allegedly refused to do so before allegedly assaulting the traffic cop who was still inside his vehicle.

Community members came in their numbers as they saw this was happening and accused the traffic official of assaulting the pedestrian.

Minutes later, more traffic officials came to the aid of their colleague.

Three people were arrested and charged with common assault, resisting arrest and interfering.

Municipal spokesperson, Prudence Magutle, said the municipality is still investigating the incident.
