Reports of road blockades by striking municipal workers

A traffic alert has been received that solid waste collectors are blocking main roads in Middelburg.

According to motorists, Protea Street and the N11 Loskop should be avoided due the blockades.

A reliable source from within the municipality confirmed that the entrances and exits as well as power supply to the Steve Tshwete municipal buildings was cut off.

The source confirmed that municipal employees have aired their dissatisfaction with the benchmarking process that was done to grade salaries.

The latest information received suggests that all is calm at the municipal building and that most of the crowd has dispersed. Councillors also reported that waste collection is carrying on in certain areas like Slechtkamp Street and Mineralia.
