Entries pour in for the scenic 2022 TRAC N4 Elands Marathon

Entries for Mpumalanga’s most scenic marathon – the 2022 TRAC N4 Elands Marathon – have been pouring in since registration opened three weeks ago.

This Comrades Qualifier is set to take place on 7 May and will be mainly run on the N4 Toll Route.

The 2022 event is backed by Trans African Concessions (TRAC) and is being presented by the Nedbank LVCC Running Club. There are three categories – 42.2km, 21.1km and a 10km – making competing accessible to road runners of various fitness levels.

The 42.2km race will start at Laerskool Oosterlijn in Emgwenya (Waterval Boven), with the route taking runners down the escarpment, through the Waterval Boven tunnel, and ending at the Sappi Skills Training Centre in Ngodwana.

The 21.1km will start at the Malaga Hotel on the N4, while the 10km will start at the Sappi Skills Training Centre where it and the 21.1km event will end.

With over 500 entries already received thus far for the 42.2km race, and categories limited to 2 000 entrants, those wanting to participate are urged to enter via www.raceinfo.co.za as soon as possible.

Only online entries will be accepted with early bird entries closing on 17 April and late entries on 2 May.

According to Mandla Nxumalo of the Nedbank LVCC Running Club, the number of entries received in such a short space of time is astounding. This is testimony to road runners being eager to get back to doing what they most love, he adds.

TRAC’s Corporate Social Investment Manager Adri Fourie agrees, adding that it’s an honour for TRAC to be part of this prevalent race, which has always been run along the Maputo Corridor.

With South Africa still on Covid-19 adjusted alert Level 1, strict Covid-19 protocols will be adhered to throughout the race. Although this may change if the national state of emergency is lifted before race day, the protocols are as follows:

* Runners will be set off in batched groups.
* Masks will be required on busses and at the race’s start and finish.
* Waterpoints will be managed according to Covid-19 regulations.
* A tog bag collection point will be available at the start and will be transported to the finish.
