Leaking sewerage drain causes headaches for Newtown residents

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality has dispatched the solid waste team to clear out a sewerage drain that has been leaking for seven weeks in Newtown.

Residents said they have been battling to deal with the stench emanating from the leak for weeks.

One resident told www.mobserver.co.za that the municipality has dispatched several teams but the matter is never resolved, they also fear that the stench will cause health hazards. Municipal spokesperson Mrs. Prudence Magutle said the civil engineering department has been informed about the matter and that a team was dispatched on Tuesday to assess the matter.

She added that the team is working on fixing the leakage.
