Shoot-out at Spar Rietkuil

An attempted robbery occurred at Spar Rietkuil on Thursday night.

The incident happened at about 19:30.

The owner of the store, Rayne Wolmarans said he received a tip-off from residents that there were six men on their way to the store.

He said he drove to the business and as he was about to park his vehicle,  where he saw the men walking towards the store.

Mr Wolmarans said he rushed to the entrance of the store to tell the security guard to close the doors.

The suspect’s heard Mr Wolmarans and started shooting in his direction.

Police officers who were in the area saw what was happening and started shooting at the six men.


The suspects then started shooting at the police.

The suspects fled the scene in a bakkie.

Mr Wolmarans said his business has been attacked twice in the last eight months.
• In January, four armed men made off with goods valued at R35 000, he was also robbed in September 2021.
