Electrical cable thefts cause widespread outages
The sabotage of essential infrastructure lead to a power outage of nine hours in large parts of Mhluzi.
Phumula, Thembisa, Reabota and Mataylen residents received an SMS at around 22:58 on Friday night about the blackout.
On Saturday, they were again informed by SMS of the ongoing outage, with an estimated eight hours of restoration time.
Last night, following load-shedding, power outages in Kanonkop and parts of the CBD were also reported.
According to CPF members, the mini-sub on the corner of Koets- and Boncker Street was the cause.
The problem with the mini-sub follows on the back of another act of vandalism in Brug Street recently, where cables were also stolen from a Telkom supply line.
