Just in: Report of fire at Duvha Power Station denied

It has just been confirmed that rumours of a fire breaking out at one of Duvha Power Station’s generating units is false.

Reports that a generating unit at Duvha had been damaged by a fire earlier today, is not true.

According to Duvha’s spokeswoman, Ms Lenny Maseko, there was no fire.

Emergency teams and hazmat units did, however, respond to a massive oil spillage at the power plant shortly after 09:00.

“We are awaiting a final report on the incident and cannot comment at this stage,” Ms Maseko told www.mobserver.co.za.

“Luckily, there was no fire, the incident is serious nonetheless,” Ms Maseko says.

She added that all units at Duvha remained operational.

Ms Maseko added that no serious injuries were reported.
