Father and son duo remanded in custody

The human trafficking case involving Cornelis Johannes Uys (60) and his son Cornelis Johannes Albertus Uys (22) has been postponed.

The matter appeared in the Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The bail application was remanded to August 3 for judgement.

Their arrest follows a multidisciplinary operation in June by members of the Nelspruit-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Flying Squad, Department of Labour and Home Affairs.

Co-accused Mozambican brothers Carlos Bernardo Guambe (34) and Gabriel Bernardo Guambe (32) were arrested during the operation.

Shortly after their arrest, the police nabbed the father and son duo on July 3.

The officials rescued seven women, nine children under the age of five and 23 men, all over the age of 18.
