On Mandela Day, the office embarked on various projects aimed at promoting its mission of changing lives.

The SAVF Social Work Office, together with the collaboration of different stakeholders, changed lives at different community centres.

• The SAVF hosted Mandela Day at their Njala Foster Home, wherein the focus was on renovating the house by painting it so it could continue to serve as a warm home for children from abused, neglected, and orphaned backgrounds.

Special thanks go to the company that sponsored the painting materials, as well as the Lioness Pride Movement for the efforts they made to assist and ensure the event was a success.

Gratitude also goes to the Almal Help Almal Vlerke organisation for their generous catering, to ensure everyone who was spending their 67 minutes at Njala had food to eat.

• On the same day, the SAVF extended their 67 minutes at Sizabaswele Old Age Club situated in Mhluzi. Two companies donated food parcels to the elderly and one also did the catering.

• The SAVF Social Work Office also hosted the Mandela Day Awareness Campaign at Ikageng Care for the Aged. The focus was on discussing the abuse of older persons.

The campaign was jointly conducted with various stakeholders, and it reached 70 people, of which 54 people were elderly.

• The above-mentioned successful events are a few of many examples of the main specialised services that are rendered by the SAVF Social Work Office, as a non-profit organisation that continues to evolve at the heart of the Middelburg community. They also render the following services to Middelburg:

• TIR (Traumatic Incident Reduction) services are aimed at assisting different people to help deal with their traumatic incidents and can also be used to assist children to disclose traumatic events that they have encountered in their lives.

• TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children.

• Mediation services, which include assisting with parenting plans.

• A variety of programmes aimed at empowering parents with parenting skills.

• A variety of programmes aimed at addressing issues of alcohol and drug dependence.

• Child protection services, which are aimed at protecting children through court orders and safe placements.

• Reunification services aimed at improving parents’ circumstances.

• Adoption services.
