Seeing that the biggest budget allocation goes toward staff pay, Middelburg residents are throwing money at a dead horse.

Yesterday, municipal employees again went after politicians, despite the council having no legal standing to implement a grade 5 municipal upgrade.

The matter has been referred to the bargaining council, but employees are simply not willing to wait out the negotiation process, opting instead to destroy the town.

They have been ordered to report back to work but are ignoring threats of no-work, no-pay, which the administration irresponsibly flouts every time services resume.

Www.mobserver.co.za has learnt that management won’t budge on one demand, and that is withdrawing disciplinary charges against 12 main strike instigators, including MHRF exco member Kgosi Makwati.

It’s unclear how long the strike will continue, with a possible special council sitting on the cards for next Tuesday.
