A call for calm under Mhluzi residents
A public letter issued by a "concerned resident", addressing Mhluzi residents has called for calm under the current municipal labour unrest.
The letter was written in light of the planned shutdown that is said to take place tomorrow, where community members of Nasaret and Mhluzi intend on rioting due to the suspension of municipal service delivery.
The letter implored residents to “not think with their emotions, but with sound mind” before choosing to take part in disruption.
It further highlighted the suspension and substandard service delivery due to municipal unrest as well as high rates which has cause frustration under all residents.
Residents were encouraged not to engage in disruptions of their own communities and schools and to avoid causing violence.
“Can we for once not set ourselves 100 steps back? Can we take back our power by not allowing other to fuel us with the rage and anger of their demands not being met?”
The letter concluded by reminding residents “to fight against striking STLM employees for not providing the services they are paid to as well as fight STLM leadership without standing in the way of our own livelihoods.”
