Strikers to meet at STLM, community uprising on the cards
Middelburg faces more unrest as municipal workers continue to strike illegally while residents have planned an uprising against poor service delivery.
Municipal strikers have gathered at the civic centre today, where several meetings with the ANC and community structures will be held.
Reports have clarified that the gathered workers remain peaceful as they wait for the meeting with the ANC at 14:00.
Meanwhile, a circular that is being shared across social media outlets has warned that residents of the Mhluzi and Nasaret neighbourhoods will be partaking in protest action over suspended service delivery on Monday.
Several routes will likely be closed by protest action from 03:00 on Monday in Mhluzi, Nasaret and Middelburg.
Ongoing labour unrest from municipal employees has sparked outrage under Middelburg residents, which has resulted in the dumping of waste at the municipality.
A banner stating “ons is gatvol” was also hung from the municipality’s palisades.
Residents are advised to avoid the municipal buildings today, despite the situation being calm.
Residents are also advised of possible road closures on Monday.
