RED ALERT: Striking employees running rampant in CBD, some armed, shots being fired

Striking municipal employees have marched into the CBD down Walter Sisulu Street, throwing rubbish into the street as they pass.

According to residents some of the strikers are armed.

Residents should also avoid the area around the police station where some of the employees are gathering.

Violence erupted yesterday with the shooting of four striking employees by contracted security guards who claim shots were fired at them first.

One employee succumbed to his injuries.
Another remains in critical condition.

Employees say the strike will continue until their demands for a level 5 upgrade is met.

There’s been no word from the municipality on what the next steps will be to quell the violence.

PPP Protection and Security claims that live rounds were fired at them, before yesterday’s shootout ensued.
