Wicht, Meter, Milli – Power outages due to vandalism crippling town
Wicht-, Meter- and Milli Street, and the surrounding area are still without power due to two vandalised mini-substations.

According to DA councillor Deon van der Merwe, a mini-sub in Wicht Street was damaged during a break-in, while another mini-sub in Meter Street was set on fire and burned down.
Cllr. Van der Merwe says there are also ongoing problems with the power supply to Nyala Flats, the cause of which still needs to be determined.

Cllr. Van der Merwe has echoed a call by Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela for residents to protect infrastructure as much as possible.
Mayor Masilela says all wards, from Ward 1 to Ward 29, including areas like Hendrina, Rietkuil, Arnot, and others, should form community watch groups in order to assist the municipality with protecting infrastructure, which is increasingly being targeted by vandals and thieves.
“Most of the power outages are due to cable thefts and vandalism of substations and cell phone and Telkom bases,” Cllr Van der Merwe says.
