On September 1, the Boere Unie will be holding their fundraiser golf day at the Middelburg Country Club to raise funds for the installation of surveillance cameras along the N11 (Loskop) route.

The golf day will launch with a shotgun start at 10:00, followed by live entertainment later in the evening, which will include the renowned Jannie Moolman and several other performers.

The game format will consist of a four-ball alliance with two scores to count at R2 000 per four-ball.

Sponsorship of the following prizes is in dire need:

• First, second and third prizes for the four-ball (male and female).

• Prizes for the longest drive (male and female).

• Closest to pin on three and 13.

• Any other prizes are welcome (four of each).

• Accessories to compile goodie bags that will be handed out on the day.

Member of the Banke Boere Unie, Ms Riette Strydom, says their organisation has installed three surveillance cameras along the N11 so far. To cover the N11 from Keerom to Damwal, as well as secondary routes, will require a minimum of at least 11 more cameras.

One pole with its cameras costs between R80 000 to R100 000, as well as additional costs for maintenance and monitoring.

Residents also stand to gain from the safety initiative as common escape routes of criminals will be strictly monitored, especially concerning stock theft, vehicle theft and the monitoring of increasing accidents on the route.
