Strike still technically on without Imatu’s final approval

The ongoing municipal strike is technically not over yet, though some employees have returned to the civic centre at 07:00 this morning where prayers started the day, in vigil of late Tshepo Maseko, the municipal employee of the municipality's electrical department killed on August 17.

According to a reliable source Samwu has signed an agreement reached late last night, for workers to return.,
Details of the agreement have not yet been released, as Imatu still needs to sign the final agreement.

As soon as Imatu has signed the agreement in Johannesburg, expected today, the agreement will be released.
Mpumalanga’s Cooperative Governance Department and council has also already signed off on the agreement.

Large number of municipal employees gathered at the civic centre since 07:00 for prayers.
The prayer gathering was followed by cleansing ceremonies at all municipal buildings.

While more employees, in critical departments are expected back at work tomorrow, employees will all formally report for duty on Monday.

The strike, which entered its second month, comes on the back of September’s two month long strike, with a number of smaller strikes in between.

The suspensions of 17 employees have been lifted and they are also expected to report for duty on Monday.
