According to a media statement issued by the SAPS, three suspects aged between 29 and 31 were arrested in Hendrina yesterday.

The arrest came after the swift response of a Traffic Officer after a spaza shop was robbed at around 10:00 the same day.

The report states that one of the suspects first entered the store to buy airtime before allegedly returning with an accomplice and drawing a firearm.

The two suspects are accused of then tying up the shop owner and locking him inside his store before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A few minutes later, a traffic officer was informed of what had transpired and the officer immediately alerted the police at Hendrina.

The members swiftly responded and cornered the three male suspects driving in a silver VW Polo belonging to one of the suspects.

Police recovered some cash in possession of the suspects and it is believed that the money was allegedly stolen during the said business robbery.

As the investigation continues, police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the alleged robbers and probably linking them with other crimes committed elsewhere.

Hendrina shop owners have been terrorised by armed robberies for the last three months, with the most recent incident taking place at the Mini Market on September 13.

Four suspects robbed the Mini market of an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes at gunpoint just after 16:00.

It was the third time the Mini Market was robbed since the month of January.

Ward Councillor, Corrie Wolmerans also informed that more than 10 robberies were reported by spaza shops in Kwazamokuhle in the last three months.

Kings Liquor was also robbed of cash after the owner had a gun pressed against her head.
