A strike has, however, not been announced.

The meeting comes on the back of Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela’s unceremonious exit from the civic centre yesterday, having been forced to vacate his office by municipal employees.

Employees heckled Mayor Masilela while he was escorted out of the building by security guards.
He was rushed from the premises in his official vehicle.

Former Acting Municipal Manager Ms Thokozile Zulu has also not returned to work, out of fear for her safety.

Both Mayor Masilela and Ms Zulu are being held responsible for the shooting death of Mr Tshepo Maseko at the civic centre last month, during a protracted strike.

Employees are demanding the resignation of both, and are also said to be targeting all management personnel who reside outside Middelburg.

Solid waste vehicles remain stationed outside the civic centre where the traffic offices were closed a short while ago.
