Andries wins Mr. MMI International 2022
One of Middelburg’s most prominent ambassadors, Andries du Preez, clinched the famous Mr. Magnificent Men Icons (MMI) International Pageant.
The MMI Pageant is a competition hosted for male ambassadors from across the globe, and Andries proudly represented South Africa.
The original dates were scheduled about two years ago but were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although the disappointment was high, it did not stop Andries from serving his community and nation during that time.
Instead of the pageant being hosted in 2020 in Las Vegas, the Michigan Pageants Inc. decided to host the event in Cape Town, as the Shumeez Scott Foundation (a centre for young adults with disabilities and special needs, such as Down syndrome) is based in the Western Cape.
The MMI Pageant hosts an incredible division that opens the stage for participants with special needs to also participate internationally.
Competitors of all ages were judged on interviews, national costumes, and community involvement.
In the last round, Andries bagged the Best Interview Reward overall and was crowned Mr. MMI International, taking over the duties from Sandeep Yadaf (from Mumbai), Mr. MMI International 2019.
The jam-packed programme, from visits to Seal Island, Aquila Private Game Reserve, feeding more than 800 residents from Klapmuts in Stellenbosch, interacting with babies and toddlers from the Christine Revell Children’s Home and a visit to Robben Island, were the highlights for Andries.
The crowning event took place at the iconic Roxy Theatre at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World.
“In my pursuit to become Mr. MMI International, I have discovered that God can and will use ordinary people who are willing to stand up wherever they are and faithfully use what they have been given to do the work He has for them,” said Andries.
Andries was showered with gifts from the Chicago Pearl Company, White Butterfly and The Sash Company.
The year ahead already holds a busy programme, with several visits to Cape Town, Namibia, Lesotho and the United States on the cards.
He also received an invite to visit the Las Vegas lights to represent the Michigan Pageant Inc. during an event at the end of November.
