According to Loskop resident, Mr. Leon Smit, a truck carrying sulphuric granules lost control in its descent of the pass yesterday late afternoon.

The sulphur spill caught fire which released harmful gasses and set light to Mr. Smit’s fields.

Mr. Smit warned that traffic is still being affected by the hazmat clean-up and that traffic is being regulated to make use of one lane that is open.

Motorists travelling through the pass are urged to approach the area with caution.

Mr. Smit explained that the sulphuric acid contaminated the stream that runs through his property, which in turn supplies water to Kranspoort Village’s dam.
