Man drowned with a Bible in his hand

The man that drowned in front of police and Pentagon Security's reaction unit in Loskop Dam last Saturday, has still not been identified.

The man was found next to the road around 07:00 the morning, ripping the seats from his VW Golf and setting them alight next to the dam.

Passers-by notified Pentagon’s Loskop Valley Reaction Unit who attempted to calm the man who identified himself as “Jesus reborn”.
He said “he was sent by God to kill a demon”.

He later undressed and covered himself in a brown muddy substance before running into the bushes next to the dam.

Mr Leonardus van Vreden of Pentagon spoke to the Middelburg Observer this week about the incident, describing it as “macabre”.
He said the man drowned in front of them with a Bible in his hand.

Mr Van Vreden tried to rescue the man from the water but he refused the assistance and drowned.
