One confirmed dead, three injured in Kranspoort tragedy

The entire cargo of acid being transported by the truck has been spilled.

One person has been confirmed dead on the scene, while two were seriously injured, and one escaped serious injury, when a truck transporting acid crashed in the deadly Kranspoort Pass.

The collision happened around an hour ago.

At least ten hours will be needed to salvage the wreckage of the truck.

The damage caused by the acid is yet to be determined, but is believed to be extensive, polluting nearby game farms and streams.

Van Wettens towing services are on the scene.

According to Louwtjie Swart of Van Wettens the road will be closed until further notice.

He says the cargo was sulphuric acid.
