One person passed away on the scene while three others were transported to local hospitals with various injuries ranging from serious to light.

The truck was transporting sulphuric acid and its entire cargo was lost following the collision.

The collision comes on the back of a meeting between property owners and SANRAL, who’ve since installed rumble strips in the pass to slow down heavy vehicles travelling down the pass.

One of the cars involved in the collision with the runaway truck was completely destroyed, while the other managed to stop just in time before slamming into the overturned tanker.

The accident occurred at around 18:00 last night.

The N11 was closed from the weighbridge just past Dennesig shortly after, with only residents along the N11 allowed access.

The pass has since been opened while the clean-up of the spill is underway.

It is the second sulphur tanker to lose its dangerous cargo since last Thursday.
