No-confidence motion against Mayor Masilela
A motion of no confidence against the Executive Mayor of the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Councillor Mhlonishwa Masilela, has been tabled for the upcoming special council meeting.
The council sitting will be held at the Banquet Hall on October 14, where councillors will make a decision regarding the motion of no confidence which was proposed by the EFF on August 31.
The motion comes as no surprise since the EFF has previously voiced its dissatisfaction with the mayor.
In their submission, the EFF stated that their motion of no confidence is based on the mayor’s:
• Non-compliance of the executive mayor to fulfil his duties, obligations and responsibilities in terms of the constitution and the Municipal Finance Management Act 56 of 2003, the Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000 and the Municipal Structures act 117 of 1998.
• Failure of the mayor to bring stability to the institution.
• The negative image of the municipality in the media.
• The lack of service and assistance to residence.
• Lack of political, financial and administrative guidance.
• Reflection on the state of the financial chaos in the municipality.
• Lack of basic good governance.
• The lack of confidence in the municipality and general negative perception of the municipality by the residents and business fraternity.
