Workers are demanding his removal from office, blaming him for the death of an employee, and the wounding of three others, during a shooting at the civic centre during the previous strike.

Mayor Masilela was denied entry to his offices yesterday, following a failed attempt by the EFF to pass a motion of no confidence in the first citizen on Friday.

Yesterday services were suspended at the municipality where workers forced colleagues from their offices.
Employees, however, returned to work today, following yesterday’s removal of Mayor Masilela.

The community, however, wants Mayor Masilela to be in office alongside Ms Zulu, while both are receiving full salaries.

The motion of no confidence was nullified on a number of technical issues relating to council’s standing rules and orders.

Friday’s futile sitting took place at the banquet hall under strict security and access control.
Around 50 members of the public attended the sitting in support of the EFF.
