Investigators say motive behind MM’s kidnapping is “sinister”

Specialist investigator Mike Bolhuis says the motive behind the kidnapping of Nkangala District Municipal Manager Ms Maggie Skhosana, and her female driver Ms Gugu Mtsweni, “is sinister and surprising”.

Bolhuis’ Specialised Security Services was appointed by the women’s families to help trace them after their abduction in front of the municipality last Thursday.

Ms Skhosana, who is reliant on a wheelchair, was abducted at the municipality’s main entrance gate at around 08:00 when she arrived for work.

Her vehicle and wheelchair were found abandoned next to the Van Dyksdrift road, close to the Middelburg Mine.
The vehicle was still idling with Ms Skhosana’s personal belongings inside.

Nkangala Municipal Manager Ms Maggie Skhosana has been found unharmed.

The women were found unharmed at around 23:00 last night in Diepsloot. They were found next to the road where their kidnappers dropped them. The women were taken to Steve Biko Hospital for counselling and medical check-ups.

According to Bolhuis, his team, headed by Morney Vos, is currently engaged in a debriefing session with both victims.
He said a statement about the circumstances of the kidnapping will be released soon.

The women’s families have gathered at Ms Skhosana’s home, awaiting their return later today.
