National Union of Mineworkers mourn death of six colleagues in brutal N4 crash
The National Union of Mineworkers have released a statement confirming that the six victims killed in yesterday's brutal collision at the N4/Bethal overpass were leaders of the union.
According to the statement, the members were driving back from the NUM National Youth Structure Conference in the city of Mbombela in Mpumalanga when the collision occurred.
The deceased members were identified as NUM PWV Regional Secretary, Bonginkosi Mrasi, Zukile Maskot (NUM-YS Kloof Branch Secretary), Lulama Madyosi (NUM-YS Kloof Branch Chairperson), Thantaswa Sikani (NUM-YS Kloof Branch Secretary), Retshidisitswe Mbirha (NUM-YS Kloof Branch Deputy Secretary) and Dumisani Futshana (NUM-YS member).

The statement further read that the members were driving together with the NUM PWV Regional Secretary, Bonginkosi Mrasi, known as Bongz, and that all the deceased are all employees of Sibanye Stillwater.
“On behalf of the NUM National Executive Committee (NEC), staff members and everyone associated with this giant trade union we send our deepest condolences to the families, colleagues and friends of the deceased comrades during this difficult times”, said NUM Deputy General Secretary Mpho Phakedi.
All details pertaining to memorial services and funerals of the comrades will be made known as soon as they become available.
