Two brothers due in court facing charges of corruption

Two foreign nationals were arrested by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Corruption Investigation unit facing charges of corruption.

According to a press release issued by the Hawks, it is alleged that on 24 November, a shop owner and his brother approached an inspector from the Department of Labour and Employment to ask him not to issue a compliance order against the shop owner.

On the 26 November, the brothers transferred R4500 into the bank account of the inspector.

The inspector notified the police about the incident and the two brothers were arrested on the 26 November by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Corruption Investigation and charged with corruption.

The two brothers are due to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) on said charges.
