Diesel thieves captured

Four alleged diesel thieves have been arrested today following an attempted burglary at Vaalbult Colliery.

A suspicious vehicle was seen circling the premises, which led to an anonymous call alerting Vossies Security.

The description of the vehicle matched that of a wanted bakkie that was used during several armed robberies of other mines.

Having spotted the vehicle heading towards Hendrina, a suspect was arrested while attempting to hide in Kwazamokuhle. He was then handed over to the SAPS.

The three other culprits were then found in the vehicle with a previously stolen diesel bowser, used to store any stolen diesel, and were subsequently arrested.
The diesel bowser, which was worth an estimated R45 000, has been recovered.

This incident follows the arrest of three Mozambican men, who were found with 600 liters of illegally acquired diesel, appearing at the Middelburg Magistrate’s court on Friday, December 2.
