Stolen Fortuner seen driving into eMalahleni, eyewitness: “I saw chaperone vehicles ditch plates”

The chaperone vehicles have been identified as a red Renault Duster and a silver or white Hyundai I 20.

A white Toyota Fortuner was stolen in front of the Belfast NG Church shortly before 11:00 this morning.

A be-on-the-lookout message was shared shortly after.

An eyewitness later saw the Fortuner driving on the N4 with two other vehicles accompanying the luxury vehicle.

The eyewitness says he saw the vehicles pull over and the occupants changing the number plates on the chaperone vehicles.

The chaperone vehicles have been identified as a red Renault Duster and a silver or white Hyundai I 20.

The Hyundai I 20 also believed to be involved with the theft.

The vehicles stopped just outside eMalahleni for the plates to be changed.

The witness followed the convoy towards the eMalahleni CBD.

Police are currently searching for the vehicles, believing that the Fortuner is destined to cross the border at some stage.

The eyewitness took photos of the vehicles and the plates, which was posted to WhatsApp security groups.

The Fortuner is a 2.8 GD6 model with registration HMJ 129 MP.

The registration plates that have been removed outside eMalahleni following the theft of the Fortuner.

The plates may also have been removed and replaced.

People with knowledge of the vehicles and drivers, or their whereabouts, should contact their nearest police stations.
