Woman accuses ANC councillor of kidnapping, starvation, torture

A freshman ANC councillor is said to be “in hiding”, as scores of residents burned tyres in front of his home, after a young, pregnant woman, accused him of kidnapping, starvation and torture, including burning her with a corrosive substance over two days.

The young firebrand is a vocal member of the ANC caucus, often boasting about his business acumen.

Riots broke out in front of the councillor’s home last night, and the police are monitoring the situation.

The victim is said to have already opened a complaint with the Mhluzi Police with the assistance of the EFF’s gender-based violence intervention team, who were dispatched to support the victim from eMalahleni.

According to available information, the councillor, who cannot be named before he is formally charged and appears in court, kidnapped the victim and held her hostage for two days.

During her alleged involuntary incarceration, the councillor allegedly used an acid-like substance to torture the woman, whom he accused of stealing a laptop.
He also allegedly refused to feed the mother-to-be over the 48-hour ordeal.

His identity is being widely circulated on social media, despite no formal charges having been brought against him.

The woman is apparently doing well after the incident and has been taken to a place of safety.

The ANC is yet to respond to the allegations.
