Thieves strike during load-shedding, 52 laptops stolen from school

Prowling criminals are using load-shedding to their advantage and have turned their sights on to local learning institutions.

Eastdene Combined School recently fell victim to criminals after thieves broke in on Wednesday night during the 23:00 to 01:00 load-shedding slot.

It is believed that the criminals gained access to the school by scaling the wall, where they proceeded to cut a padlock and wiring leading to the CCTV cameras.

According to the school principal, Ms Lalitha Walters, the thieves made off with 52 laptops.

A joint investigation between the SAPS and Titon Security is underway.

• Similarly, criminals also targeted the Middelburg Combined School last week Wednesday.

School Principal Ms Eleanor Pinetown confirmed that criminals also targeted the school on the Wednesday night during load-shedding hours.

The suspects tied the security guard to a tree and proceeded to force open a door to a classroom.

Fortunately, the thieves were unsuccessful in stealing anything after being warded off by security measures.
