‘Catch’ yourself a boat at Loskop Dam Classic

The Loskop Dam Classic fishing competition, hosted by Koning Makriel Sea Angling Club, is taking place on September 2 at Loskop Dam.

This premier fishing competition, which is dubbed one of the biggest in the country, has fabulous prizes up for grabs.

The fisherman who manages to catch the heaviest carp walks away with a Bandit 490 Boat with a Mercury 100HP motor.

The heaviest barbel has a prize of R50 000 attached to it, the heaviest junior carp and barbel R10 000 each.

Second place in the heaviest carp and heaviest barbel on the line wins R30 000, third place is R10 000 each.

Jonathan Abrie won R50 000 for the heaviest barbel in 2022.

“We had a blast last year and this year the bar is set higher,” said Mr Dwayne Viviers from Koning Makriel.

Last year’s winner of the boat was 20-year-old Ju-Mari Joubert, who caught a 5.40kg carp.
An ecstatic Ju-Mari said, “I could not believe my ears when my name was announced. My dad started crying with joy. It was truly the highlight of my life.”

Jonathan Abrie smiled about his R50 000 cheque for the barbel that landed him first place. The winning barbel weighed 12.06kg.

The juniors also ‘hooked’ some good cash prizes.
