Municipal services will be affected tomorrow, but still functional

The Steve Tshwete Municipality is hosting a commemoration event for the first anniversary of the death and injuries of four municipal workers on August 17, 2022.

Municipal services will be affected but will remain functional with a skeleton crew, however, measures are in place for emergency and technical services to continue at full capacity.

The event will begin tomorrow at 07:30 and last until 13:00, and will take place in the parking lot of the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, with special guest speakers and performances, most notably by “The People’s Poet” Mzwakhe Mbuli, who performed at the Presidential Inauguration of Nelson Mandela in 1994.

Municipal services will be back in full operation from the end of the event at 13:00.

Harris Sithole, Sibusiso Thabang and Sarel Vilakazi sustained injuries, and Tshepo Maseko lost his life during wage strikes that took place last year.

Municipal Manager Mandla Mnguni stated that the event was a healing process for the families, employees and residents.

The theme of the event is “No Justice, No Peace”, and will hope to unite the community and celebrate municipal workers.
