Car drives into back of coal truck, two killed

Two people were killed when a car drove into the back of a truck early this morning.

Two people sitting at the front of the car died, and a passenger sitting in the backseat was rushed to a hospital.

The R35 (Bethal road) is currently open but will close momentarily when forensics arrive at the scene. This will cause a roughly 30-minute delay for drivers.

The two individuals were killed, with the passenger in the back being rushed to the hospital.

The accident happened at 05:30 when the truck turned onto the road towards Middelburg. The car drove into the truck’s back tyres.
The truck driver sustained no injuries and minimal damage to his vehicle, while the car is damaged beyond repair.

ER24 and the Steve Tshwete Emergency Services are at the scene, with fire extinguishers being used to subdue the excessive smoke coming from the car.

The licence plate of the car is still stuck in the back tyres of the truck.

The two people that passed away have not been formally identified yet.

Fire extinguishers were used to extinguish the excessive smoke from the car.
