Middelburg Flying Squad nabs wanted suspects

The Middelburg Flying Squad apprehended a group of men allegedly involved in a hijacking syndicate in eMalahleni on December 10.

Members of the Flying Squad received information that the gang, allegedly involved in numerous car hijackings, business robberies, and armed robberies, were spotted at Lynnville on December 9.

Middelburg Flying Squad members and guards from a private security company operationalised the information at about 23:45, resulting in the suspects’ arrests.

Preliminary investigations led members to two other addresses in Lynnville and Coronation, where two firearms, along with one magazine, were recovered. One round of ammunition was also found in Lynnville, while a black revolver was recovered in Coronation.

Three suspects, aged between 30 and 34, were nabbed on charges of car hijackings and possession of unlicensed firearms with ammunition.

Middelburg Flying Squad members continued their investigations with the Witbank Crime Prevention Unit and detectives, leading to the arrest of one alleged hijacking suspect in Klarinet on December 10.

A 32-year-old suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and one round of ammunition, with the recovered firearm reported stolen in Piet Retief in October.

Investigations further led the police to another suspect found in possession of car keys for a Dodge.

The investigation led to the location of the vehicle, revealing it was hijacked in eMalahleni early this month. A 26-year-old suspect was arrested.

All five suspects appeared in the Witbank Magistrates’ Court on December 12.
