Eastdene residents bound and robbed at gunpoint

Man believes same robbers shot friend in recent attack

The police are still searching for three suspects responsible for a terrifying house invasion in Eastdene on October 10.

The residents were at home sleeping when the homeowner heard his door being kicked in at around 03:00.

The homeowner went to the door, and an unknown man outside told him he was from the police and that the homeowner should let him in.

When he opened the door, he saw three men with handguns wearing balaclavas.

They forced the homeowner back into the house, where they bound him and his wife with shoelaces in their bedroom.

The robbers then ransacked the home, and the homeowner’s brother was also tied up with shoelaces, after which cash and jewellery were stolen.

The homeowner said he wants to warn the public following a similar incident last Thursday, during which an elderly female Eastdene resident was robbed in the same way.

He added that he also believes the trio are responsible for a recent shooting, which left a Chinese resident paralysed.

The man has since moved back to China after being shot in the chest during a similar robbery.

According to the homeowner, the same set of events unfolded in both the elderly Eastdene woman’s home invasion as well as that of the Chinese victim.

He believes the gang is based in Middelburg.

“The police must hunt and catch them before they kill someone,” the homeowner said.

Despite sustaining no life-threatening injuries, the homeowner says his family have been left traumatised by the event and asked for his name and address to be withheld.

The robbers spoke both Zulu and English but with a distinct Malawian accent, the homeowner said.
