Somaphepha to have water soon

The residents have been without running water for nearly five weeks.

There is finally light at the end of the tunnel for Somaphepha residents after the only borehole in the area dried up a month ago.

Steve Tshwete Local Municipality said a new borehole is being drilled in a new location, however, due to the ongoing rain, municipal workers had to down tools.

The water shortage also saw local farmers helping distressed residents in the area.

The borehole ran dry due to a lack of rain in the area, “An investigation into an alternative water supply is being conducted,” the municipality said.

The municipality also told the Middelburg Observer that the pump’s installation and connection to the reservoir should be completed by Friday.

In the meantime, residents are relying on water tankers, which are being dispatched to the area daily.

“The municipality apologises for any inconvenience, as the provision of sustainable water supply to the community is our priority.”
