July recap: Christmas didn’t come early for some

The month of July started on a sombre note with a gruesome murder of a high school learner in Mhluzi.

Lunga Zwelo Nkabinde (16) was found dead inside a dustbin at his home in Extension 8, Mhluzi.
It was later revealed that Lunga had traces of poison in his system before he died.
The police opened an inquest docket.
Sadly, it is still unknown who placed the teenager in the dustbin or how he ingested the poison.

• The whole country was shocked to learn about the tragic accident involving an American elementary school teacher, her son, and a police officer.
Dr John Grieco, Elementary School Principal Daniela Camilla Small-Bailey (57), and her mixed martial arts instructor son, Sidanii Bell (35), were involved in a head-on collision with a Dullstroom police vehicle.
It was later revealed that the officer driving the vehicle was Constable Donald Kalushi Phasha. An unidentified female occupant with him in the police van also died.

• The month ended on a high note with Kanonkop High School hosting the Mpumalanga Schools Rugby Final in Division 4. The Black Lions boasted two teams in the final. The u/14 team faced Hendrina High School in the final and won 24–0.
