By-law prohibits the use of fireworks in residential areas!

Residents are warned that they are not allowed to use fireworks in residential areas.

Steve Tshwete Local Municipality issued a press release earlier today warning residents about fireworks.

It states:

“The by-law relating to fireworks prohibits the use of fireworks in residential areas and any place where animals are present unless authorised in terms of Section 4 of the by-law.

No person may light or ignite fireworks on any day or any time except for New Year’s Eve between 23:00 and 01:00 in the morning at a designated area.

The public is advised to report any nuisance caused by fireworks to the provided contact numbers.

Nuisance fireworks produce an effect involving a screech or bang noise or create fear or a disturbance to residents. Altering or misusing fireworks can also become a nuisance. These fireworks include air bombs, supersonic bangs, sound shells and fountain whistles.

The use of ‘Family Packaged’ outdoor low-hazard recreational fireworks is allowed.
