Warning: Floods, potholes ravaging Middelburg streets
Motorists are urged to proceed with caution when travelling on low-lying roads prone to flooding.
The entire town is littered with potholes and the problem is only escalating, due to the fact that no repairs can be done by the municipality while continued rains persist.
Before dawn this morning, the weighbridge on the corner of Zuid- and Celsius Street was flooded with water, concealing the enormous potholes lurking underneath. The water has since cleared, but the potholes remain.
Eastdene’s Koets Street is still partly flooded with large pools of water, and some potholes are not visible.

Potholes are also expanding in length and width due to ongoing rainfall.
Koets is not the only low-lying street in Middelburg, with the lower water bridge in Koppie Street also overflowing.
• The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality is currently stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The cries from the public to fix the worsening pothole issue cannot be addressed as no substantial repairs can be done until the rain stops.
Roads surfaces need to be entirely dry in order to effectively fill the potholes.
